Staunton, Oct. 8 – The Kremlin is changing the borders of the Russian Federation so often that anyone seeking to purchase a map of that country must now specify the day on which the one they want was valid, Muscovites are now joking. So far, the borders are expanding but that could change too.
That is just one of the anecdotes Russian journalist Tatyana Pushkaryova offers in her latest collection (publizist.ru/blogs/107374/44143/-). Among the best of the rest are the following:
· The Russian sports ministry has introduced some new events, including running from the enemy for long distances and forcing refuseniks to sit on objects with wooden handles and glass necks.
· The line at the border between Russia and Georgia has ended after all those who wanted to get out of the first and into the second succeeded. That is something like capital flight: it has slowed or even ended given that everything that can be exported has been.
· The Kremlin shouts “we can do it again” thinking about 1945, but its actions mean that what is likely to happen again is 1917. History is no joke!
· Ukrainians have led down the Russians again by failing to hire enough telephone operators to answer all the calls Russians are placing about the fate of their relatives who have been mobilized.
· Having received a message of congratulation from Kim Jong-Un, Putin reflected that it was better to get one from the North Korean leader than from Kim Kardashian.
· In honor of Putin’s birthday, Moscow’s Tretyakov Gallery opened an exhibit of the most beautiful promises the birthday boy has ever made.
