Paul Goble

Staunton, Sept. 20 – Overall, Russia has reached a new higher plateau as far as the coronavirus is concerned, with daily infections close to 20,000 and deaths just under 800 every 24 hours, as Russian officials worry about the impact of the beginning of the regular flu season and try to figure how to balance the deployment of medical resources.

Today, Russian officials reported registering 19,744 new cases of infection and 778 new deaths from covid, as the pandemic continued to go up and down across the country (t.me/stopcoronavirusrussia/5916, regnum.ru/news/society/3369923.html and regnum.ru/news/3375687.html).

The Russian health system is having to increase their attention to the coronavirus pandemic at exactly the time when it normally and again this year is having to devote more to fighting the flu. In Leningrad oblast, officials tightened covid restrictions, while in Moscow, they opened new mobile flu vaccination centers (regnum.ru/news/3376018.html and msk.kp.ru/daily/28332/4477418/).
