Russian Officials Reported More Covid Infections Today than Ever Before

 Paul Goble

Staunton, July 10 – Russian officials reported registering 752 new deaths from the coronavirus over the last 24 hours, the highest daily total for that country over the course of the pandemic, as well as 25,082 new cases of infection. Significantly, infections outside the capitals now outnumber those in them three to two (https://regnum.ru/news/3318565.html and  t.me/COVID2019_official/3259).

In the regions, ever more governments are tightening restrictions not only on their own residents but also on all visits with some imposing massive fines for any potential visitor who has not been vaccinated (regnum.ru/news/society/3315953.html and znak.com/2021-07-10/na_kubani_neprivitym_turistam_grozyat_shtrafy_do_30_tysyach_rubley).

The Russian government is also tightening inspections of those entering the country, something that has led to the formation of long lines at Sheremetyevo where arriving air passengers must show proof of vaccination (znak.com/2021-07-10/posetiteli_sheremetevo_zhaluyutsya_na_ogromnye_ocheredi_iz_za_proverki_dokumentov_po_covid_19).

On piece of good news: today, Russia epidemiologists said that only one in every 100,000 to 200,000 cases experience a repeat infection, a figure vanishingly small compared to most other infectious diseases (regnum.ru/news/3318461.html).
