Staunton, Nov. 1 – A case in Buryatia raises a disturbing new possibility, one certain to outrage even those who support Putin’s war in Ukraine. It appears that the first Buryat mobilized for service in Ukraine may have died even before getting there. That means he was likely killed while in training.
Because the Russian authorities refuse to provide any information on how he died, his family and friends don’t know what happened, but the Lyudi Baikal portal says it is almost impossible that he made it to Ukraine. That probability will only add to suspicions about why the Russian authorities are not being more forthcoming about the causes of death among casualties in Russian forces and also about the sorry record of non-combat deaths in the Russian armed forces, suspicions that will likely cause even more men in Russia to consider flight to avoid service.
