Staunton, Aug. 19 – Ella Pamfilova, the Moscow official who oversees elections in Russia, says the 2024 vote on the presidency won’t involve politics at all. Russians add that it is increasingly likely that this event won’t involve voters either, according to the latest anecdote circulating in the Russian Federation.
Among the best of the rest of those Russians are telling each other now that have been assembled by Moscow journalist Tatyana Pushkaryova (publizist.ru/blogs/107374/46595/25) are the following:
· Moscow doesn’t know what to do with the 39 billion of US dollars now held in inconvertible rupees in Indian banks now that Russia has succeeded in getting Delhi to agree to trade in national currencies rather than the US dollars. Some suggest that the Russian government’s only way out may be to trade for Zimbabwean dollars.
· Any Russian visiting North Korea now that there are direct flights from Vladivostok to Pyongyang who chooses to come back to Russia should tell everyone what life in Russia will be like in a couple of years.
· Putin went to Rostov to show that he could do what Prigozhin did and to deal with generals who need to be replaced. What the Kremlin leader really needs to do is to organize a campaign against Moscow and deal with all those in that city who should be removed from office.
· The loss of the Luna-25 probe on the moon is no big deal, Russians say. After all, the entire nine-year program that produced it is less than Sechin’s annual salary.
· The cosmic Luna-25 has become comic.
