Ingush Call for Closing Airport Lest Chechens Diverted There Spread Coronavirus

Paul Goble

            Staunton, March 31 – Now that the first case of coronavirus infection in Ingushetia has been confirmed and the republic authorities have called on residents to stay home except for essential business, some Ingush have turned to the Internet to demand that Magas close its airport;

            Behind that wave is the fact that Chechens who are coming from Moscow have been forced to land in Magas now that Ramzan Kadyrov has shut down the airport there to all non-residents.  Ingush say that their republic should shut the airport rather than accept such flights. They also say the ground border of the republic should be closed.

            The other main complaint Ingush have is that local stores are boosting prices in the face of shortages. Some Ingush who are now posting online are saying that the authorities should investigate and enforce anti-monopoly laws (kavkaz-uzel.eu/articles/347751/ and kavkaz-uzel.eu/articles/347726/).
