Staunton, Mar. 6 – A month ago, all Russians could talk about was the coronavirus pandemic and the new omicron strain. But now that is all behind them because it turns out, some Russians now joke, that “the best vaccination against covid is the de-Nazification of a neighboring country.”
What remains to be determined is what other country must be de-Nazified next in order to solve Russia’s other ills, they continue, in the first of a new batch of anecdotes gathered by Moscow journalist Tatyana Pushkaryova (publizist.ru/blogs/107374/42276/-). Here are some of the best and most instructive:
- · Soldiers and officers of the Red Army who fought in the Great Fatherland War are know as liberators; Those who fought in Afghanistan as internationalists. But it remains to be seen what those in the Russian army now in Ukraine will be known as – de-Nazifiers or Special Operationalists.
- · Real patriots in response to Western sanctions will now get rid of everything they own that comes from the West, will holiday in dachas near where they live, and watch only Russian films. “Or is this fake news for which Russians might be given five to ten years in jail?” That is hard to know for sure.
- · If you think propaganda makes people stupid, you are mistaken. It is designed from the beginning for people who are already stupid.
- · For years, Russian television news told us that the Ukrainian economy and society were in a state of complete collapse. Now the same newsmen tell us that Ukraine can build a nuclear bomb in just a few months and has in fact been working on it for some time. Whom are we to believe?
