Staunton, June 13 – In the latest anecdote circulating in Moscow, some Russians reportedly are saying that a snap VTsIOM poll has found that a majority of Russians are “impatiently” awaiting a new meeting between Putin and Berlusconi, the Italian leader who died on June 12.
That is the anecdote Moscow journalist Tatyana Pushkaryova leads with in her latest collection of Russian popular commentaries (publizist.ru/blogs/107374/46043/-). Among the best of the rest are the following:
· Like the two-headed eagle that is the Russian state symbol, Russia now has two armies, one belonging to Shoygu and a second to Prigozhin; and also like the heraldic version, it appears that these armies are looking in very different directions.
· Russian should be patient because soon the Wagnerites will free them from the Kadyrovites; and most importantly, pray for Putin because then in any case you will get out of this temporary hell into his eternal paradise!
· Expecting fools to grow wiser and the cannibals who boss them around to change is the most dangerous form of optimism.
· Asked whether they support conservative values, Russians say they will support any values if they are sufficiently compensated.
· A marathon in support of political prisoners collected some 34 million rubles under the slogan “you are not alone.”. Now, in contrast to this treacherous trick, supporters of Putin are collecting money in support of him with the slogan “you are forever alone.”
· A Russian deputy prime minister said with pride that “Russian cosmetics are no worse than Western ones.” Can one imagine his counterpart in France or Italy boasting that “our cosmetics are now worse than Russian ones”? Of course not, because France and Italy don’t have an inferiority conflict of the size of Russia’s.
· Putin has announced that Russia will rapidly and easily surpass the American Bradley infantry fighting vehicle by launching mass production of a purely Russian Bradney counterpart.
