Russian Community Complains Chelyabinsk Officials Trying to Identify which of Their Employees are Members of that Radical Nationalist Group

Paul Goble

Staunton, July 20 – Leaders of the radical Russian nationalist group, the Russian Community, have formally complained about the efforts of a Chelyabinsk district government to identify which of its employees are members. The Russian Community said that such actions are illegal and unconstitutional.

The letter is on the organization’s telegram channel (t.me/obshina_ru/25136) and has been discussed by independent media (meduza.io/news/2025/07/21/russkaya-obschina-pozhalovalas-na-rayonnuyu-administratsiyu-chelyabinskoy-oblasti-kotoraya-potrebovala-ustanovit-sotrudnikov-svyazannyh-s-dvizheniem).

The case is both encouraging and discouraging, encouraging because it suggests that many local administrations and not just police forces are now ready to try to stand up and contain the Russian Community but discouraging in that it indicates that the Russian Community is now actively recruiting officials, a trend that could make the situation even worse.
