Mothers-in-Law Likely to Be Found to Be Russian Group Most Opposed to Putin’s War in Ukraine, Russians Joke

Paul Goble

Staunton, July 13 – Now that a man has charged his wife with criticizing Putin’s war in Ukraine in order to get rid of her, Russians say, the next wave of such accusations are likely to be against mothers-in-law who remarkably will be found to be more opposed to what the Kremlin leader is doing than any other social group.

That is just one of the latest anecdotes assembled by Moscow journalist Tatyana Pushkaryova (https://publizist.ru/blogs/107374/43400/-). Among the best of the rest are the following:

·       Patriarch Kirill’s motorcade in Kaliningrad had 17 vehicles, including  four police cars and one ambulance. That prompts the question: is he a follower of Jesus Christ or of King Herod?

·       Given that wage arrears are increasing and people are complaining about this, it is only to be expected that the Duma after returning from vacation will immediately pass a law equating such complaints with criticism of the special military operation in Ukraine and set as punishment 15 years in strict regime camps.

·       Sergey Mironov, the leader of the A Just Russia party, is lucky. He has had four wives and that allows him to have a spotlessly clean financial statement because he has distributed his property among his harem.

·       Russia is the site of yet another amazing paradox. An ordinary person tells a lie once or twice and is no longer ever believed, but the country’s leader lies for decades and the majority of the population believes him ever more without question.

·       Few Russians know that there were opposition figures under Ivan the Terrible. To be sure, such people were all kind of headless.
