Russians Say Generals and Officials Now Dying Unexpectedly May Return to Life in Argentina

Paul Goble

Staunton, Aug. 19 – Every day seems to bring reports that this or that senior Russian general or top officials has died, but Russians are saying among themselves that they won’t be surprised if in a few months most or even all of them miraculously come back to life and are found living in Argentina.

This is just one of the anecdotes circulating in Russia that have been collected by Moscow journalist Tatyana Pushkaryova ( Among the best of the rest are the following:

·       Russian school children are now being told that real Russian patriots ride a tank or at worst an armored personnel carrier but never a Mercedes, no matter how many of them they see on the streets of Moscow.

·       Russian Orthodox who want to show their loyalty to the Kremlin are now saying that it is true that Stalin killed many priests but deserves credit for creating so many new martyrs for the faithful to pray to.

·       Russians should stop worrying about which foreign currency to keep their money in and simply use what funds they have to buy more alcohol.

·       Aging Russians need to take their eyes off their smartphones so that they will realize that their children are confining them to a nursing home.

·       The Presidential Administration is considering what new ideas Putin should offer in his reelection campaign. The best would be to close down the special military operation in Ukraine.

·       The Russian defense ministry wants the Alligator KA-52 helicopter listed in the Red Book of endangered species because it has lost so many in the fighting in Ukraine that alligators are almost extinct.

·       The Russian Central Bank congratulated Russians on the 25th anniversary of the 1998 default saying that of course, “we can repeat!”

·       And Russians are now quoting George Bernard Shaw’s observation that “censorship eventually comes to the point of banning all books except those which no one reads.”
