Whoever Lives Well in Russia Now will Do Very Well in Hell, Some Russians Say

Paul Goble

Staunton, Mar. 9 – One of the eternal Russian questions is “who lives well in Rus?” But some Russians say there is at least a partial answer: anyone who lives well in Russia today will have no problem in the afterlife living in hell, so that those doing well now will know what they can expect.

That is just one of the anecdotes Moscow journalist Tatyana Pushkaryova has posted in her latest collection (publizist.ru/blogs/107374/47983/8). Among the best of the rest are the following:

·       Lyudmila Putina, the Kremlin leader’s ex-wife, says that on the basis of Russian succession laws, she is prepared if necessary to succeed him as president.

·       Some Russian parliamentarians have introduced legislation that will free from criminal charges anyone who agrees to fight in Ukraine. What a gift! That means someone can now kill senators and deputies with real impunity.

·       Russian democracy is the best in the world and anyone who says differently will be imprisoned or killed.

·       Russian patriots support Trump because the American leader will do what Putin can’t: he’ll make Russia great if he becomes president again.

·       Russia’s armed forces have only two problems: their planes are heavier than air and their shifts are heavier than water.

·       The West has sent Putin a medal for his contribution to the expansion of NATO.

·       Russians should respond to Sweden’s entry into NATO by destroying their IKEA furniture, smashing their Volvos, throwing away ABBA CDs, and never reading about someone called Carlson who interviews Putin.

·       The Justice Ministry announced that in honor of international women’s day, Moscow would declare only men on that date to be foreign agents.
