Two More Ingush Teips Call for a Boycott of April 22 Vote, Bringing Total to Ten

Paul Goble

Staunton, March 18 – The Mestoevy and Shaukalavy today became the ninth and tenth teips to call for a boycott of the April 22 referendum, citing Moscow’s failure to support Ingushetia and even threatening the republic’s survival (fortanga.org/2020/03/mestoevy-bojkotiruyut-popravki-k-konstitutsii-rf/, fortanga.org/2020/03/shauhalovy-bojkotiruyut-popravki-k-konstitutsii-rossii/ and strategicon.org/teipoviy-factor-ingushckogo-grazhdanskogo-obschestva-i-rossiyskaya-konstituzionnaya-reforma/).

Meanwhile, Russian courts extended the detention of two more Ingush activists, Bagaudin Khautiyeva and Magomed Khamkhoyev, who have been  charged with attacking officials during the protest last March (kavkaz-uzel.eu/articles/347263/ and kavkaz-uzel.eu/articles/347255/).

Finally, Anton Chablin argues that Moscow has effectively taken direct control of Ingushetia’s government because again last year the republic was the leader in failing to spend money that was allocated to it and was forced to return to the center “more than 1.3 billion rubles” (20 million US dollars) (6portal.ru/posts/правительство-ингушетии-финансово-б/).
