Staunton, Apr. 1 – Any fool can criticize Vladimir Putin and his regime, Russians say in the latest anecdote from Moscow; but it takes the highest level of skill, found only among experts or political scientists, to find something about the Kremlin leader people can praise day after day.
Among the other Russian jokes and anecdotes Moscow journalist Tatyana Pushkaryova offers this week (publizist.ru/blogs/107374/45502/-) are the following:
· Russians can instantly identify as fake any recording of members of the elite in which none of the participants curse others.
· The Central Bank calculates that if a Russian stops eating and drinking for ten years, he will have enough to pay today’s price for an apartment in a new building. But by that time, the apartment will have doubled in price.
· Ethnographers confirm that cannibals in New Guinea are convinced that not eating other people will lead to the loss of their national identity, the destruction of their traditional way or life, and even national betrayal.
· Putin officials say it is impossible to talk with the opposition because one can’t make sense of what its members are saying because they are all gagged.
· Moscow propagandists are no longer saying that Putin’s “special military operation” is needed to keep NATO away from Russia’s borders now that Finland has joined the Western alliance in response to what Moscow is doing in Ukraine.
