Paul
Goble
Staunton, December 23 – Agit Russia
have filled the metro stations and trains with posters showing Vladimir Putin
and Dmitry Medvedev in the guise of Santa Clauses and listing what the two
leaders have given the Russian people in 2018: higher housing costs, higher gas
prices, and an increase in the pension age (rosbalt.ru/piter/2018/12/21/1754653.html).
Two aspects of this new political
action make it intriguing. On the one hand, it is extremely clever to speak at
this time of year about “the gifts” Putin and Medvedev have given to the
Russian people. And on the other, these posters are so ubiquitous that no one
travelling on the city’s transport system will miss them.
