Staunton, January 13 – Two Ingush detainees
who admitted their guilt have been released after being held several days past
when they completed their sentences. Eliskhan Azhikhov was supposed to be
released on December 28 and Musa Pliyev was to be let go on January 9. But both
were released today (kavkaz-uzel.eu/articles/344610/).
This is not the first time the authorities
have announced a release date but then held an Ingush detainee longer. Last month, Zelimkhan Tomov was held several
days after he was supposed to be released.
It is not clear why this has been happening (kavkaz-uzel.eu/articles/344106/).
Meanwhile, there were developments
today in three other cases involving Ingushetia. First, a scheduled hearing in
the case of Gelany Khamkhoyev was postponed after his attorney failed to show
up. His case on charges arising from the protests is being held behind closed
doors (kavkaz-uzel.eu/articles/344612/).
Second, investigators say they have
no evidence that former counter-extremist official Ibragim Eldzharkiyev was
killed for revenge or on a religious basis. But they continue to look for
evidence and raided the home of a guard of a former religious official who was

And third, Khasan Zyazikov, charged
with using force against the police, told the court that he not only was not
participating in the meeting but was absolutely “apolitical.” He said he had
resisted the police only because they appeared to be threatening older people
