Staunton, May 14 – Journalists from the Krym.Realii project of Radio Svoboda have posted an interactive map showing more than 220 Russian military facilities that have opened in Ukraine’s Crimea since the 2014 Anschluss. They acknowledge that the map is as yet incomplete and call for those who can to report additional sites.
The map is available in Ukrainian at radiosvoboda.org/a/crimea-military-bases-map/32397787.html and in Russian at radiosvoboda.org/a/crimea-military-bases-map/32397787.html?lang=ru; and both its compilation and basic features are discussed at ru.krymr.com/a/krym-interaktivnaya-baza-voyennykh-objektov-krym-realii/32410354.html.
What makes it especially important in the current environment is the way in which the map highlights both Russian concerns about Moscow’s control of this Ukrainian territory and Russian efforts to make it as difficult as possible for Kyiv to reclaim what is Ukraine’s from the occupiers.
