Xi Jinping says Putin's Next Visit to China will be in Khabarovsk, Russians Joke

Paul Goble

Staunton, Oct. 18 – Following Vladimir Putin’s visit to Beijing, Russians are saying, Chinese leader Xi Jinping announced that the Russian leader’s next visit to China will be in Khabarovsk, a city that for the time being at least is withing the borders of the Russian Federation.

That is just one of the anecdotes Moscow journalist Tatyana Pushkaryova has assembled that reflect how Russians really see the world around them (publizist.ru/blogs/107374/46984/-). Among the best of the rest are the following:

·       Xi gave Putin many gifts and now it will be up to the Russian people to pay for them.

·       Things are going to get worse but everyone will get used to that, as they have already.

·       Kremlin leaders apparently have decided that they have a reserve planet somewhere. Why else would they think that they can bomb Siberia?

·       Moscow officials say that no pensioner is getting less than subsistence pay. The reason? Because those who did have all died off.

·       You can now be sent to the camps for asking inconvenient questions.

·       The most common question Russians ask when supporters of Yavlinsky ask them to sign his petition to be a presidential candidate is this: “Is he still alive?”

·       According to Patriarch Kirill, nuclear weapons were created “by God’s ineffable providence” and have saved Russia. Thus, after the constitution and history were rewriting, Moscow is engaged in rewriting the commandments into pure Stalinism.
