Russian Philosophers Now Debating Which Increased in Price First – the Chicken or the Egg?

Paul Goble

Staunton, Dec. 10 – Confronted by rapidly rising prices in food stores, Russians say, philosophers in their country have now updated the ancient question about which came first, the chicken or the egg. Instead, they are debating about which of the two went up in price first at least in Russia.

That is just one of the new anecdotes Moscow journalist Tatyana Pushkaryova offers in her latest collection (publizist.ru/blogs/107374/47310/-). Among the best of the rest are the following:

·       Russians can take heart this New Year’s Eve because the decorations hanging on trees are ornaments rather than themselves.

·       Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says he doesn’t know which Putin will win the presidential election.

·       Having heard about the price rises in Moscow for eggs, Stirlitz is happen to be living in Berlin.

·       Patriarch Kirill says there are only five truly free countries. He didn’t provide a list but it must include Russia, Belarus and Iran. But who are the fourth and fifth? Atheistic China” and communist North Korea.

·       Now that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is 75 years old, it’s time to take in out and bury it.
