Have Ukrainians Taken Tver? Or is Russia Now Bombing Itself? Russians Ask

Paul Goble

Staunton, August 3 – When it was reported that the drone which hit a Moscow ministry was launched not from Ukraine but from Tver, Russians reportedly began to ask one another whether than meant Ukraine has taken Tver and, if not, whether Russia is bombing itself. After all, it has long been clear that Russians have to bomb Voronezh but not Moscow.

This is one of the increasingly sharp and angry anecdotes Russians are telling each other that have been collected and posted online by Moscow journalist Tatyana Pushkaryova (publizist.ru/blogs/107374/46481/-). Among the best of the rest of her latest offering are the following:

·       To get through the day, Russians have to avoid calling a spade a spade because using the correct words will lead to incorrect conclusions.

·       The dictator of backward Eritrea who has been in power for 30 years already had a heart to heart talk with Putin who has been in power in backward Russia for 23. The African leader assured Putin that the West produces nothing and will soon be finished.

·       The most reliable vehicle going to Crimea is the drone.

·       One important difference between Russians and Americans is that Americans rarely care what the dollar-ruble exchange rate is while Russians are obsessed with this.

·       The heroic commander in chief of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has sacrificed the ruble to that undertaking.

·       Russia should extend visa free travel to more countries no one can or wants to go to. Russians will feel better and the others won’t care.

·       A Duma deputy wants dolls to feature genitalia in all cases so that no Russian child will imagine that there is a third gender.
