Staunton, June 15 – A Daghestani has
posted on the Internet a response to Ramzan Kadyrov’s threatening comments
about those who oppose Chechnya’s claims or criticize the Chechen regime,
denouncing the Grozny leader for behaving in a manner inconsistent with the
traditions of the region and the requirements of Islam.
In less than 48 hours, the post was
viewed more by more than 720,000 people, with those who left comments
overwhelmingly supporting the Daghestani and denouncing Kadyrov (kavkaz-uzel.eu/articles/336698/).
Kadyrov’s response is what one might expect: he has sent more siloviki up to
the disputed border region (kavkaz-uzel.eu/articles/336685/).
The Internet appeal, however, was overshadowed
even in Daghestani by protests online and otherwise against obviously false
charges of abetting terrorism which officials have lodged against Chernovik
journalist Abdumumin Gadzhiyev. His colleagues and supporters have created a
committee to support him (kavkaz-uzel.eu/articles/336708/).
