Pogorov, Sought by Police, Calls for Europe’s Ingush to Unite to Defend Republic’s Territorial Integrity and Statehood

Paul Goble

Staunton, May 11 – In a move that will undoubtedly infuriate both Moscow and Magas who want to arrest him, Akhmed Pogorov, the vice president of the World Congress of the Ingush People, has issued a very public appeal to Ingush living in Europe, calling on them to unite to defend their republic’s territorial integrity and statehood.

He says that the situation is now so dire that Ingush must put aside all disagreements in order to oppose the illegal and unconstitutional threats emanating from Yunus-Bek Yevkurov and his Moscow backers, and he argues that this best can be achieved by creating new “unions of the Ingush diaspora” in European countries.

The independent Ingush news site, Zamanho, has published a facsimile of his letter to Ingush activists abroad (zamanho.com/?p=7604).
