Staunton, November 14 – Izabella
Yevloyeva, the editor of the embattled Fortanga news agency, says that
Moscow and Magas are ignoring the Ingush Teips and the Ingush nation; but that
their failure to pay attention just like the repression they have visited upon
both will not intimidate either. (mbk-news.appspot.com/region/sezd-soveta-tejpov-ingushetii/).
“The Council of Teips is the union
of extended family communities and at the same time a registered social
organization, she writes. In the life of the Ingush people, the teips “play one
of the key roles.” Without their approval, no one can be married or buried and
no public question can be resolved (mbk-news.appspot.com/region/sezd-soveta-tejpov-ingushetii/).
That makes the organization’s congress
extraordinarily important. According to one participant, the authorities “committed
a big mistake in not offering space for the meeting.” But the teips went ahead
anyway. Both Magas and Moscow have ignored
it, “something that will not lead to anything good,” he continued.
But a nation must know its heroes, and for the
eighth time, the human rights group MASHR is conducting a competition to
identify “the heroes of civil society” in Ingushetia. It is certain that teip leaders will be among
those garnering nominations and votes (kavkaz-uzel.eu/blogs/342/posts/40481).
