Staunton, November 14 – Reflecting the
Moscow Patriarchate’s desire to be useful and the Kremlin’s plans to increase
Russia’s military presence abroad, the Patriarchate’s education department has asked
the heads of religious training schools to inform their students that they may
at their desire serve three-year terms as chaplains at Russian military bases
abroad.
A photograph of the signed circular
letter has been posted on an Orthodox affairs portal (ahilla.ru/vypuskniki-duhovnyh-zavedenij-mogut-otpravitsya-v-kachestve-kapellanov-na-zarubezhnye-voennye-bazy-rf/).
It has not yet been included on the websites of the ROC MP, however.
Up to now, the church has sent its priests as chaplains to military units inside the Russian Federation but not abroad.
