Pandemic Cases Continue to Rise in Ingushetia but Moscow Expert Says Republic Well Prepared

Paul Goble

Staunton, April 30 – The numbers of coronavirus infections in Ingushetia continue to rise, with infections going up from 679 to 722 over the last 24 hours and the number of deaths there rising from 20 to 22. Ingushetia, meaning that the republic still has the highest rate of deaths among infected in the North Caucasus (kavkaz-uzel.eu/articles/349036/).

But Vadim Testov, a cardiologist with the Russian health ministry, says that Ingush hospitals are better equipped to fight the pandemic, thus providing support of Magas’ claims that the mortality rate in the republic reflects the failure of people to go to doctors soon enough rather than shortcomings in the healthcare sector (gazetaingush.ru/news/predstavitel-minzdrava-rossii-vadim-testov-rasskazal-o-gotovnosti-ingushetii-k-borbe-s-novoy).

Unfortunately, another Moscow official, Investigative Committee head Aleksandr Bastrykin says that Ingushetia is one of the leaders among the federal subjects in terms of the number of unsolved murders and other major crimes (capost.media/news/obshchestvo/bastrykin-reported-on-the-growth-of-unsolved-prestupni-the-stavropol-and-ingushetia/).
