Staunton, April 8 – Bagaudin Myakiyev
and Ruslan Dzeytov, two Ingush activists who were sentenced in February to 22
and 21 months in prison for their role in the March 2019 protests, have been ordered
released by a Stavropol Kray court pending the outcome of their appeals,
according to their lawyers.
On this action, extremely welcome
given fears that they might be exposed to the coronavirus if they remained
behind bars, see fortanga.org/2020/04/aktivist-ruslan-dzejtov-osvobozhden-iz-pod-strazhi/,

and kavkaz-uzel.eu/articles/348080/.
Unfortunately, at least eight other
Ingush detainees remain in preliminary detention, including political prisoner
Zarifa Sautiyeva. It is not clear whether
the Russian courts will extend such leniency to them, especially as they are
now charged with organizing a terrorist organization, a far more serious
violation that could result in up to ten years in prison.
