Staunton, November 10 – Concerned
that the siloviki might try to disrupt the proceedings, organizers of the Congress
of Teips of Ingushetia did not announce where they would be convening but
nonetheless were able to attract about 700 delegates from around the republic
who met in the open air because officials wouldn’t allow them to use a public building.
Nonetheless, the police did show up;
but the organizers’ success as conspirators was limited by the fact that they
invited republic head Makhmud-Ali Kalimatov to speak. He didn’t come or send one of his advisors
such as Issa Kostoyev so clearly more knew about the venue that organizers have
acknowledged (ekhokavkaza.com/a/30262862.html).
Meanwhile, Magomed Mutsolgov, an
active blogger, says he was approached with a major bribe if he would stop his
critical commentaries on Magas and Moscow. He said he turned the offer down
immediately, but its existence suggests that the authorities may now try to buy
off their critics in just so crude a way (kavkaz-uzel.eu/blogs/342/posts/40440).
